Like and Subscribe: 5 of My Favorite YouTubers

Updated: Nov 28, 2018

I love YouTube. I really started getting into it when my daughter was an infant, because I spent hours breastfeeding; stuck in one place, and I used YouTube to pass the time.

Never mind the fact that I’ve watched countless hours of makeup tutorials and still have no idea how to contour my face or apply a winged eyeliner – that’s beside the point. YouTube is great, and if you’re not super into it yet, maybe one of these YouTube channels will suit your fancy.

Mom Vlogs – Raven Elyse

Raven is mom to a toddler, a Target aficionado, and a lover of rap music, so right when I found her channel, I knew that I would be able to vibe with her. She has a great sense of humor, and her daughter Ziya is a CEO in the making, if you ask me. Watch all of her mom vlogs here.

Hair Tutorials – Sekora and Sefari

OK, so this channel won’t help you learn how to do your hair for date night. But, if you have a young daughter like me, and you need some guidance on hair care and hair styling, this channel is a great resource. Black girls have so many different hair types, and admittedly, I didn’t have a lot of knowledge on protective styles. Sekora and Sefari have played a big role how I take care of Avery’s hair.

Comedy – All Def Digital

Comedy – The Try Guys

Formerly of BuzzFeed fame, The Try Guys gained popularity with their outlandish video topics. They branched out on their own and created their own company, and their videos have only gotten better. Watch their DUI series here (trust me).

Makeup Tutorials - Alissa Ashley

I mentioned earlier that I watch hours of makeup tutorials, so I bring you Exhibit A. Alissa Ashley is one of the many makeup channels that I watch. YouTube is a competitive space, and like Issa Rae said, “I’m rooting for everybody black.” Alissa’s foundation technique is perfection, and although you may never be able to apply winged eyeliner (like me) but I guarantee you’ll learn a thing or two.

Do indulge in the YouTube? What is your favorite channel?
